About ExpatSteps
ExpatSteps was built for one reason: moving to Germany should not feel like a full-time job.
When I arrived, I spent three weeks figuring out what health insurance I needed, two weeks waiting for an Anmeldung appointment I could have booked earlier, and one very expensive afternoon learning that my rental contract had a hidden clause I should have spotted.
The information exists, but it is scattered across government PDFs, outdated blog posts, and Facebook arguments. ExpatSteps is the guide I wish I had: clear, current, and written for people who are actually going through it.
Every article is researched against current German law and tested against real expat experiences. If something changes — a new visa rule, a closed office, a replaced form — we update it.
This site is independent. We earn commissions from some products we recommend, but only ones we have used or researched deeply. Our first loyalty is to readers, not affiliate programs.
